MILWAUKEE, WI – August 10, 2015 – Microbe Detectives LLC founder Trevor Gylin, PhD, announced today that he plans to accelerate growth of the company and strive to become the leader in its category. As part of this move, Dr. Ghylin brought on industry veteran, John Tillotson, to serve as the co-owner and CEO. Dr. Ghylin will assume the position as Founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

Microbe Detectives is focused on harnessing the power of modern DNA analysis methods of environmental microbes to:

  • advance wastewater treatment performance
  • reduce water related diseases
  • enhance oil and gas operations
  • improve food safety
  • increase crop production and quality

Founded in 2013 by Trevor Ghylin during his Ph.D. work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Microbe Detectives accelerated the adoption of genomic technology in environmental applications. The company was selected by The Water Council’s prestigious BREW Seed Accelerator program, the Rice University Business Plan Contest and by the Wisconsin Innovation Awards.

“After completing the BREW Seed Accelerator program, I had developed business with over 100 customers,” said Dr. Ghylin. “I knew the business held exceptional potential. I met John Tillotson through my contacts at the Water Council. John has the background and professional skills that I was looking for in a business partner and CEO of the company, and frankly, we hit it off quite well.”

“I’m passionate about water technology, commercializing disruptive innovations, and building winning teams,” said Mr. Tillotson. “Microbe Detectives is on the front end of a major industry movement applying modern DNA analysis methods that will transform what is possible in food, water and energy – the essentials of life. I feel very lucky to have this opportunity, and fully expect we will emerge as the leader in our category. We have a tremendous amount of work ahead of us, but the future is indeed bright.”
